Anxiety

What is Anxiety?

The lifetime prevalence rates for anxiety are over 28%. This means that 28% of the population will at some point in their life suffer from a clinical form of anxiety. Anxiety effects adults and children and is the most common of all disorders followed by depression. Sometimes, people can have clinical forms of both anxiety and depression. Many aren’t aware of this but anxiety disorders are the most easily treated, yet many don’t seek treatment. Of those who do, many will rely on medication for the rest of their lives. Advanced Psychotherapeutics of Lynchburg and Central Virginia offers many treatment options to treat anxiety to include psychotherapy, neurofeedback training, and mindfulness interventions. If you suffer from anxiety, there is a cure and it’s only a phone call away.

How do I know if I have Anxiety?

All forms of anxiety are based on fear. Fears can vary from specific things or events in the form of phobias, panic, obsessions that lead to compulsions, medical complications that have no organic or medical explanations, to worries that are more general. A complete evaluation from a mental health professional will narrow down the specific type of anxiety you have. In addition to recognizing the fears that drive a given type of anxiety, symptoms must also present in a way that make it difficult to function in daily tasks at work and other settings. Anxiety can also negatively impact relationships and keep one from engaging in social environments. A common additional problem with anxiety is that of insomnia.

How is Anxiety Treated?

Anxiety can be treated with medication, psychotherapy, neurofeedback, non-invasive brain stimulation, or in combination of these methods. Anxiety is easily treated and with the right treatment, it can be cured.
