CHILD COUNSELING AND PARENTING

At our Child Counseling and Parenting Center, we treat problem behaviors that others generally can’t such as Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder, Autism and childhood abuse. We have two dedicated child development specialists with extensive training in working with children.  Our child care specialists our the only trained providers in Central Virginia who has received specialized training in developmental therapy for children with these disorders. In addition to working with the child, we also provide comprehensive programs for parenting. We will teach the parent specific techniques and strategies to gain compliance. We also have our own certified therapy dog, Stella, to help regulate emotions and build trust.

We also offer parenting skills training for foster parents and for court ordered cases. Our parenting skills training at this level is mastery based with pre and post assessment of skills. This is the only program in the area that is mastery based with assessment to ensure you have completed each level. These sessions are 8 weeks long meeting once a week for 1.5 hrs. During these sessions you will learn to master a variety of roles to include Tasks Accomplishment, Role Performance, Affective Involvement, Control, Values and Norms, and Communication.
